Senate Greenlights Bill to Make Public Jeffrey Epstein Records

The Senate on this Tuesday passed without delay to a bill that will require the publication of official records related to the deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, following a overwhelming vote in the House of Representatives and a change of position by Donald Trump and his Republican allies. Trump's team changed course after an extended period of trying to delay the bipartisan effort involving a case that has followed the president since his comeback to the White House.

Expedited Passage in Both Chambers

The Senate acted by unanimous consent, which needs acceptance from each senator but does not require a recorded vote, accelerating the process. Earlier that day, the House overwhelmingly approved the bill on a 427-1 tally.

“The American people have been patient long enough. The survivors have waited patiently,” the Senate Democratic leader declared in a address to the chamber on Tuesday, before asking the Senate to approve it without opposition. “Uncover the facts. Allow openness to prevail.”

Presidential Signature

The measure next heads to Trump for his approval. The president stated on the previous day that he would endorse the legislation.

Although Trump has for an extended period dismissed the uproar over the authorities' approach of the scandal as a “political stunt”, he voiced approval for the measure over the past few days, and stated he would give his assent if it comes to him.

Reaction

Democrats, along with victims and their advocates who were seated in a viewing area, cheered after the bill was enacted. The only opposition came from Clay Higgins, who stated he feared the measure would make public identifying details of witnesses, potential suspects and others involved in the investigation.
